The brief was to design a comfortable three bed family home in an existing 250+ year old cottage. Open plan layout was a key element to the brief. The house was to have a rural feel through its form and materiality due to its contextual setting.
The addition of two separate forms allowed the bedroom wing to the left to form a private courtyard which connected into the open plan kitchen.
The budget was 300,000 for a complete overhaul and extension.
The result was a contemporary family home that pays homagé to the history of the site. A new extension was tastefully added and clad in corrugated metal linking back to the cottages past as a farmyard. This project was completed in 2020.
